Safety Patrol
Pomeroy Elementary partners with AAA and the Santa Clara Police Department in our participation in the Safety Patrol Program. This program supports school communities to learn about and fulfil pedestrian safety responsibilities and promotes leadership, work skills, collaboration and communication.
Pomeroy joined this collaboration in the Fall of 2018. In our first year we won the Chief's Award along with our participation ribbon for the excellence in our work and commitment. Officer Carpenter and Mrs. Parsons work to train our 5th grade Safety Patrol team on a monthly basis. Students have the opportunity to earn badges and promotion as they demonstrate excellence. Safety Patrol also occasionally enjoys special pizza lunches, a trip to Sky High and a yearly celebration and promotion ceremony.
Additionally, since Pomeroy has the busiest pedestrian foot traffic on our Pomeroy Ave. crosswalk, the City of Santa Clara funds crossing guards to ensure our students walk to and from school safely. We love Mr. Ben and Mr. George!
In the Fall of 2018 Pomeroy stakeholders engaged in a Pedestrian Master Plan observation where we made safety recommendations to the City. Those plans are in the works and should be seen in the 2020-21 school year.
